Starting out it is going to be difficult to get used to not using plastic forks when they are available but thankfully most of the dining facilities on campus do not use them either. Though many places do use reusable utensils it might be helpful to carry your own utensils around in a book bag or something so that when you do come across places that offer plastic, you can use your own and stay away from the temptations of the plastics ones.
It may also help to chose foods that do not necessarily need utensils so you can avoid them all together.
Good luck guys! I know you can do it! Help our world become a more eco-friendly and green place. :)
Giving up wasting plastic utensils is made easier if people decide to eat at McEwen, Harden, or Collonades because every single one of those dining halls uses metal utensils that are washed and cleaned after every meal. Varisty and Octagon however have plastic utensil readily available.

If you buy a set of metal utensils you can carry them around in your bag/backpack so when you find yourself at places like mosely or acorn, you will be able to avoid using the plastic utensils provided.

ReplyDeleteThats a really good idea Adrienne. It's fully because you don't realize how much plastic silverware we actually use. I eat at least once a day at lower colonnades and use about 4 plastic utensils per day. It really adds up. Liza, I think you made a great point about convenience. It is going to be very difficult to carry around my own silverware and wash it after each use. It is so much more convenient to grab a pair of plastic utensils, eat and throw them out.
